Celebrating a wonderful first year with August Maxwell
There’s no doubt about it – life flies by so much faster after you have children!
I know the days can feel super long in the first few months of welcoming a baby, especially when you’re adjusting to life with a newborn. It seems impossible to find 10 minutes for a shower and the days of lingering over a hot cup of coffee are a distant memory.
But trust me when I say that the first year really does go by so much quicker than you think! That’s definitely how first-time parents Tori and Scott felt when we met for a family mini photo session to celebrate their son’s first birthday.
I met this sweet couple last year for their beautiful maternity session at Mercer Aboretum; that’s why Tori decided to visit this special spot again for August’s first birthday photos!
The sweetest family of three
Tori has always coordinated the classiest outfits for she and her family, and this photo session was no exception! She’s elegant in an ivory midi-length dress and nude heels, perfectly complimented by her blonde bun and makeup.
Her boys are in blue, with Scott in a patterned blue and white shirt, paired with light khakis, and baby August in darker khaki shorts, a chambray shirt and suspenders with a bowtie!
I adore neutrals for every single kind of photo session because they photograph beautifully and keep all of the attention on baby and my client’s faces. These colors pop against the soft greens and browns of the arboretum, too.
We kicked off the session with family photos underneath one of my favorite trees at Mercer Arboretum. I invited Tori and Scott to snuggle together and engage with August, while fitting in a few “smile and look at me!” more traditional portraits.
A blue-eyed baby in a bowtie!
Tori had two outfits for her son; initially, he was in his khakis and suspenders. Then she changed him into a seersucker romper embroidered with his name that absolutely made my heart explode from the cuteness!
He was just shy of his first birthday for this session and Auggie has mastered crawling! Because he’s pulling up and not quite comfortable standing without support, I had mama stand him next to this low wall so I could get some solo shots!
He also sat and inspected leaves, too! I couldn’t believe how well he did with his first birthday crown – it didn’t bother him at all and he didn’t try to remove it even once!
Wrapping up with some sweet shots of Tori & Scott
I love to wrap up family minis by reminding couples where their family’s story began! Tori buckled Auggie in his stroller with a snack and I snapped five minutes worth of stunning couples shots. For most of my clients, they haven’t had photos like this taken since their weddings! That’s why I love to leave a few moments for romantic couples photos!
Tori and Scott worked with me for newborn, in-home maternity, six-month and one-year photos. I put together a recap video of the sweetest moments for them, which you can see at the top of this post. These recap videos are included with all of my four-session packages!
It was amazing to watch them go from expecting a baby to finding endless joy in parenthood. August is one very loved little guy and his parents have gorgeous photos to remember this sweet time of their lives!
