Yewande & Bode are waiting to welcome their baby girl this summer!
Planning photography sessions during COVID-19
Yewande and her husband, Bode, are so anxious to meet their daughter in July! This spring and early summer have looked quite different from how we expected with the COVID-19 pandemic. One thing stays the same, though: parents-to-be want to celebrate the upcoming births of their babies!
Mama-to-be Yewande contacted me about maternity and newborn photography sessions while Texas was in the midst of the shutdown. Because I didn’t know when state or county restrictions would allow me to photograph again, I worked with several mamas, including Yewande, to plan every aspect of their sessions, from location to wardrobe to accessories.
We had all of our details in place once business restrictions were lifted. All she had to do was sign her contract and let me know when she could meet for photos!
A sunset maternity photography session
Early summer is such a beautiful time of year to celebrate pregnancy! I met Yewande and Bode at one of my favorite spots in The Woodlands just a bit before sunset. The trees are full and green, flowers are in bloom – and we even caught a rare Houston breeze!
We kicked off this romantic maternity session with Yewande in a lovely green dress and silver earrings. She’s quite tall, even in flats, and fortunately her hubby is still just a touch taller. I was thrilled that she brought along three gowns to wear during her session, all perfectly complimented by her hairstyle and professionally done makeup.
Don’t miss the gorgeous sneak peek Yewande received the morning after her session!
I like to start maternity sessions by photographing parents-to-be together, as opposed to just mama. This helps lessen those “photo session” nerves! Yewande and Bode were absolute naturals in front of the camera, whether she was with him or taking photos by herself.
Originally from Nigeria, this sweet couple met in Houston. Yewande is lucky to have family here to help once their daughter is born, and Bode is hopeful his family will come visit at some point.
Fitted, beautiful maternity gowns highlight mama’s perfect baby bump
Yewande has such great taste in selecting maternity gowns! She wore her own dresses for the session in gorgeous jewel tones of green, red and blue. Each of her selections fit her so perfectly, highlighting her baby bump and lovely pregnancy curves.
I loved how well Bode’s wardrobe complimented Yewande’s. His jeans, white dress shirt and gray jacket are the perfect mix of casual and sophisticated. They’re such an adorable couple that I can only imagine how beautiful their daughter will be!
Peaceful moments for these parents-to-be near the water
One part of this location that I love is a tiny pocket tucked away, just off the water. There’s a rock just big enough for two people to cuddle together, softly lit by the setting sun. This is where we starting winding down Yewande’s session after capturing so many beautiful portraits of her in green and red gowns.
She saved a stunning blue gown with a train for last, and I love the contrast here against the green trees. Some mamas shy away from traditional “boy” colors when they are expecting a girl, and I’m so glad Yewande didn’t! This blue dress was simply stunning on her!
We photographed my favorite series of the entire photo session on a wooden bridge over the water. I use a longer lens for these photos, which allows the couple to share sweet, private moments while I photograph them from quite a distance.
You can see how the sun is hitting the trees behind Yewande as it sets, softly flowing around her hair as Bode nuzzles in. I love the emotion here, and just thinking about their daughter looking through these photos as she grows up makes my heart happy. These little glimpses into who Yewande and Bode are as they await their daughter’s birth will be such a gift to her.
Wrapping up with throwing the train!
Yewande had one last request as we were wrapping up her session: she wanted fun shots of her train flying behind her!
I was thrilled she wanted to have a little fun with her gorgeous maternity gown, and we couldn’t have asked for a better night with a light breeze! After briefly explaining to Bode how to throw the train for maximum beautiful flutter, we caught some lovely photos of a very happy mama-to-be!
Bode was a such a great sport as I asked him to throw the train not once, not twice, but three times to ensure we had perfect photos of mama in this amazing gown!
