An in-home newborn photo session perfectly captures your family, your newborn & your home
When expectant parents are considering their options for newborn photos, it usually comes down to two options: a posed newborn session in a studio, or a more natural approach in your home.
Most mamas know pretty quickly which session appeals more to them: you either want mostly photos of baby, or more photos of family with baby.
That’s actually an important distinction, because some posed newborn sessions don’t include opportunities for photos with mom, dad or siblings. Sometimes they do, but you have a limited amount of time to capture these moments, and it’s usually not very much. Most of the session is focused on manipulating your newborn into various poses while keeping him or her asleep, and much less time on you, your husband and siblings with your newborn.
That’s why I prefer in-home newborn sessions over posed ones; I believe families are most comfortable in their own spaces. You can snuggle with your babies on the couch, where you’re probably spending lots of time now anyway, or in baby’s nursery, where you’ve spent months getting all the details just right.
I only schedule one newborn per day; babies can be unpredictable and I don’t want to rush you or your newborn in capturing these special moments. So while you’re guaranteed an hour-long session, it’s not an issue if we need a few more minutes to squeeze in more sweetness!
You can celebrate beautiful, frame-able moments of baby and your entire family after an in-home newborn session, just like this family of four did!
Gorgeous photos of your newborn
Photos of your precious baby will always be priceless. I bring a Moses basket to newborn sessions so I can capture newborn babies safely and beautifully while you watch. I photograph them doing sweet newborn things, like sleeping peacefully with their tiny hands curled under their cheeks.
This sweet little man is snoozing away in my Moses basket, on top of a stunning ivory knit blanket made by his aunt Sarah. Sentimental touches like this blanket set in-home newborn sessions apart.
On the right, mama carefully lays her hand on top of her sleeping son as he holds onto her finger.
This adorable little guy is so peaceful, and we shot this portion of the session in the master bedroom. His parents are standing just outside the frame, to the right, as I work with their son.
Here, mama and dad are sitting next to their baby boy, with both hands gently on his chest. It’s the perfect way to keep the focus mostly on baby, while involving mom and dad, too.
Your family with your newborn
I usually photograph in the master bedroom, the living room and the nursery. Your home is such a big part of your story as a family! These in-home newborn photos capture all the little details you may not even think about.
This couple is standing in the master bedroom, just in front of the chair where she nurses. The shadow box hanging on the wall behind them includes her bouquet from their wedding, as well as his boutainiere, a wedding photo and their wedding invitation. So many memories and moments are in one image!
All of these images are also in the master bedroom. I love including family shots on the bed, especially of toddlers with their new baby siblings. This family already has so many memories in their home, and these photos of their newborn add to the happiness.
This sweet family of four enjoyed a relaxed, easy morning in their home for their newborn session. Mama didn’t have to get everyone up and dressed early, and then drive to an unfamiliar place for photos. She had everything she needed – clothes, items for baby, toys for her older son and snacks for when he got hungry.
When we wrapped up the session, all the family had to do was change into comfy clothes and take a nap! You couldn’t ask for an easier newborn photo experience.
