This stunning all-white studio is a gorgeous option for maternity & newborn photo sessions!
We’re pretty fortunate to have mostly mild winters here in the north Houston area, but our summers are something else! Particularly during the hottest months of July and August, my heart goes out to mamas when we shoot maternity photos outdoors. Although I schedule summer maternity sessions in the evenings and keep clients out of direct sun, it’s still so humid that your energy can feel zapped pretty quickly while pregnant.
That’s why I’m so excited to offer my clients the option of in-studio photos for maternity and newborn sessions! I recently photographed Diane and Cody with their brand new daughter in the studio, and they were so pleased with the experience and the beautiful photos!
A stunning, simple option for photos
I began working with Diane and Cody as they were preparing to meet their daughter, Harper. Their maternity session was a beautiful celebration of pregnancy and the exciting parenthood journey ahead.
After Harper arrived, Diane emailed me to set up her newborn session. She explained that she and her husband are building their dream home, and are currently living in a rental house. She asked what options were available given that they didn’t have any sentimental connection to their rental home.
First, I reassured Diane that we could absolutely use her rental home as a lovely backdrop for these photos. I didn’t want to cause her and Cody any added stress or frustration having to get out with their new daughter.
Lots of clients think they need a magazine-worthy home for pretty photos – and that’s just not the case! All I need is access to natural light, and even then I bring along simple off-camera lighting to every session in case we need it. If you’ll give me permission to move furniture as needed, we can make any space work for your newborn photos. I’ve shot newborn sessions in high-end custom homes and in tiny apartments. We can make any space work!
I also offered the option to schedule her newborn session at a gorgeous studio in The Woodlands. The studio is tucked back in the trees and offers a variety of rooms for rent per hour for special photo sessions like this one with Harper and her parents.
I sent Diane photos of the studio, as well as my recommendation for which room would work best for their newborn session. Fortunately, she loved the space and they had availability for Harper’s newborn photos.
One less thing to worry about before your session
From there, I coordinated all of the details to use the space, including booking, signing the contract and payment (which I invoice the client for). All Diane and Cody had to do was show up with their daughter. I had everything they needed except for her diapers and a pacifier!
A beautiful, peaceful experience
On the day of their session, Diane and Cody arrived at the studio with sweet Harper sleeping soundly. I had already set up our room, including placing the studio-supplied furniture in the best places for photos.
Diane had her choice of lovely lace gowns that I brought for her to wear. Once she changed into my gorgeous mocha lace floor-length gown, I wrapped Harper in a neutral swaddle and got to work!
What I loved about this experience was how perfectly the studio space worked out. It was incredibly clean, and bright natural light flowed in from the wall of windows along one side of the room. We shut the doors to the space for the duration of our time to give Diane and Cody a quiet, private session snuggling with their baby girl.
I advised Diane that adding on the studio’s queen-sized bed would be a great option for family shots, and a place to swaddle Harper. It was waiting for us in the room when I arrived, complete with white sheets, a white duvet and white pillows.
I worked with Diane and Cody for two hours, and we moved at Harper’s pace. Although she slept soundly until the last few minutes of our time together, the room provided plenty of privacy if Diane had needed to nurse her daughter.
Benefits of studio rental
As a mom of three little girls, I am no stranger to the stress of packing up a new baby, loading them in the car and hoping that I have everything in the diaper bag that I might need while out of the house!
That’s why I offer in-home newborn sessions in the first place. I go to my clients because, most of the time, that’s the easiest option for you. New parents are oftentimes most comfortable at home, where you can easily nurse, change or soothe baby wherever and whenever you need to.
I also recognize that not everyone may want to open up their home for photos. Maybe you’re renting your house like Diane and Cody, and you don’t feel like the space is set up well for these memories.
Or, maybe you don’t want to spend time getting your home ready for the session. Let’s be honest – welcoming a new baby is exciting… and exhausting! When you bring your newborn home, I know you’d rather spend time resting and caring for baby than getting your house ready for photos.
Shooting in the studio is also a great option during our hot summers when you’re pregnant. They have a beautiful outdoor space we can use for outdoor shots if you want the best of both worlds.
For a variety of reasons, a studio session may be a better option for you and your family. If that’s the case, I’m more than happy to coordinate time at the studio for you. I want your maternity or newborn session to a lovely, stress-free, easy experience!
How the process works
If you think that a studio might work out better for your maternity, newborn or baby session, just let me know!
To reserve a space, I have to request a specific date and time. I’ll work with you to determine which room is the best option for your session, and we can also discuss very budget-friendly add-ons (like the bed pictured above) to ensure a wonderful studio experience and amazing photos you’ll treasure for years to come.
