This vibrant at-home newborn session celebrating Silas is full of lots of love – and lots of blue!
Welcome Silas Ross, born in The Woodlands, Texas, on June 14, 2019, weighing 8.5 lbs. and 21.5 in long!
{Newborn photography in The Woodlands, Tx} I met fellow Texas A&M Aggie (whoop!) Jordan last year after we were placed in the same small group for Bible study (along with Amanda too!). Our older kiddos are close in age and it was such a treat to meet her newest little guy, Silas. Big brother Liam and middle sister Eliza are so in love with their brand new baby brother!
A relaxed family newborn session in The Woodlands, Tx
Jordan requested a casual newborn session, which is the best way to go when you have three little people to get dressed for a photo session. She selected a gorgeous color palette of vibrant blues, whites and grays for her family of five. It’s pretty clear that she’s a fan of a blue/teal shade from the decor in her home and the outfits she selected!
We kicked off this sweet session in the family’s living room with access to so much beautiful natural light from a gorgeous wall of windows.
Despite a full tummy, Silas didn’t want to miss a minute of the action – he was awake the entire time! He was so curious and loved looking around – especially when he was near his big brother and sister!

Snuggles with Silas
In this sweet in-home newborn session, we focused on lots of family moments, creating opportunities for Jordan to decorate her home with her priceless images. The shots from the living room feature their gray couch with pops of color from wall decor and the bright green lamp. In the master bedroom, her teal blue comforter provides a perfect contrast to the neutral walls and white headboard.
My favorite images from their session are definitely from the series in the master bedroom. By this time, the kids were not quite so curious about having a photographer in their home, and they simply relaxed with mom, dad and Silas on the bed.
Oldest kiddo Liam was so proud while holding Silas and he also soaked up the moments with just his mom and dad while holding baby brother. Eliza was thrilled to show off how she kisses Silas on the head and was as tender as a 2.5 year old can be while holding him!
A wide-awake babe in a basket
It’s rare for a newborn who is full, swaddled and warm stay wide awake for very long! Even snuggled comfortably in the Moses basket, Silas showed absolutely no signs of sleepiness, which was totally fine with me. I loved capturing his big blue eyes and adorable facial expressions! It just so happened I brought along a tiny hat in mama’s favorite shade of blue, which went along perfectly with the rest of the teal in their home!
The Moses basket is a great alternative to crib shots if the nursery isn’t quite photo-ready, or if the light in baby’s room isn’t ideal. Jordan’s living room was so perfectly lit on Saturday morning that we didn’t even step foot in the nursery, and instead positioned the Moses basket next to the windows.
Having such gorgeous natural light is really the secret to beautiful photos. We were definitely spoiled with amazing sunlight during this newborn session!
Bold colors + black & whites
Part of my in-home newborn questionnaire asks about mom’s color preferences for her images. Jordan wanted her entire session delivered in color, which I was happy to do. I couldn’t resist a couple of black & white conversions just to show her how beautiful images can be without color too! I usually deliver a mix of both, but if a mama has a preference like Jordan did, it’s my pleasure to accomodate requests.
There were about 10 photos of this family that I especially loved in black & white. I think removing color from an image can help you focus more on the emotion of the moment. This is so true of the images with just Silas and mom or dad. The happiness, joy, pride and love – it hits you right away in these images, particularly in simple white, black and gray tones.
One thing is for sure – Silas is already loved more than he knows! The adventure of life as a family of five has only just begun!
