There are last-minute requests to book a photo session… and then there are very desperate emails begging for a session at the absolute latest possible second. Orenda fell into the second group when she contacted me to book a maternity session six days before her c-section. That’s right, with less than a week to go, this beautiful mama wanted pictures of that baby bump!
Unfortunately I didn’t have an opening for maternity photos before her c-section, so instead I suggested a Fresh 48 hospital session! These photos are fabulous for families who want to remember the first few days of baby’s life without hiring a photographer for labor and delivery.
Orenda’s Fresh 48 session celebrates her baby boy!
I met Orenda and her son just hours after he was born. Aside from her IVs and hospital gown, you’d never know she’d had major surgery earlier that day! She was glowing and her sweet son was so happy to be snuggled in his mama’s arms.
The sunlight coming in through her window made for some gorgeous images that I barely had to edit. Using natural light makes for the most beautiful photos no matter the setting – in a living room, at a park, or even in the hospital like Orenda. In case we need a little extra boost in a darker room, I’ve always got my off-camera flash just in case!
Fresh48 photography sessions are gently posed to get some of the “must-have” shots, but most of the session is completely candid. It’s just parents loving on their brand new baby! Sometimes siblings are there too, but there is an intimate sweetness when the session is reserved for mom, dad and baby.

Plus, if you’ve got other kids at home, it’s awesome (and so very rare) to give one child your full attention. Mamas, do this while you’re at the hospital after delivery! Soak in everything about your newborn. They grow so quickly.
