A gorgeous at-home newborn photo session celebrates an Aggie girl, class of 2043!
Sweet Mykayla Ann joined her parents a few weeks early, and this in-home newborn session was the perfect way to welcome this beautiful newborn girl! From her tiny pink pants to her nursery filled with pink accents, there are tons of precious, girly touches in this Woodforest, TX at-home newborn photo session.
A new mama in a soft pink dress
Jenny looks absolutely amazing in her soft pink floor-length dress from Lulu’s, which was a perfect choice for her daugher’s in-home newborn photo session! There are many advantages to wearing a dress right after welcoming a baby: it’s much more comfortable than any pair of jeans, it looks a million times better than a pair of yoga pants or leggings, and it gives your session a little extra sparkle as you make these once-in-a-lifetime memories.
We added in lots of soft pink accents to compliment Jenny’s dress, including an ivory and pink tie-back for Mykayla, her pastel pink pants and one of my tiny flower crowns that features soft colors including pink, peach and ivory.
This sweet newborn session began in Jenny and Jared’s beautiful living room with baby-only photos of tiny Mykayla in my whitewashed wooden bowl. After a series of photos all by herself, Mykayla snuggled with mama, with both of them softly lit by the natural light flowing in from a wall of windows.
A brand new family of three!
After photos of Jenny, Jared and Mykayla in the living room, we moved on to family photos in the master bedroom. These are always some of my favorite photos of every newborn session – there’s something so sweet and intimate about a family snuggling together on the bed. With plenty of light coming through the windows along the back wall, Jenny looks amazing!
After working with this adorable couple for their maternity photo session in College Station, TX in April, it was such a joy to see how perfectly content they were to watch their beautiful baby girl sleep. Jenny and Jared are like most new parents – exhausted from the adjustment of having a baby, but over the moon to finally have her here.
I also worked with each parent individually in the master bedroom as they cuddled with Mykayla in the nursing chair. I loved these soft images of Jenny as she smiled down at her baby girl, and I loved how Jared included the 12th man towel from the maternity session in this portion of Mykayla’s newborn photos. She doesn’t know it yet, but Mykayla is destined for the greatest university in the world!
A Winnie the Pooh nursery fit for a princess
I’ve photographed so many cute nurseries over the years, but it’s not too often that parents have a particular character theme for the room. Usually I see particular color schemes (gray is the most popular color by far!), and lots of girl mamas work in some kind of floral accent.
Jenny and Jared settled on a sweet Winnie the Pooh theme for Mykayla’s nursery, and it was so perfectly carried out in the room, along with pink and white accents.
They hung a white mirror along one wall that was the perfect height to photograph Jenny and Mykayla’s reflection; these were my favorite shots of the entire photo session!
We also invited sweet puppy Maggie to join in on the fun; my favorite trick for getting puppies interested in baby in the crib is to stick a small dog treat just far enough away inside the crib that puppy can’t quite reach it! This gives me plenty of time to capture Mykayla and Maggie in their first official photo together!

Lots of variety in the photo gallery
Jenny and Jared wound up with a lovely photo gallery of more than 100 images. While mom and dad stayed in the same outfits for the entire session, we added variety to their photos by using three rooms in their home, along with using two backdrops within each space. For instance, I photographed this sweet couple on the bed in their master bedroom, and in the nursing chair in front of the window. I varied backdrops and perspectives in Mykayla’s nursery as well. This gives Jenny and Jared tons of options when selecting images for decor in their home.
