This new maternity home in Willis, TX is a beautiful place for mamas & babies
Even years before I got married and had kids, mamas and babies had a tender place in my heart. In fact, I started volunteering with a pregnancy medical clinic in Bryan/College Station when I was at Texas A&M. Ever since then, I’ve been involved with similar centers, including a local clinic, PACN.
When I heard that former colleagues from PACN were gearing up to open a maternity home, I couldn’t wait to tour it and learn more about their plans to support mamas and babies!
I spent some time at Journey Home this morning – and I was completely blown away at what a comfy, warm, welcoming, beautiful place it is! So much time, love and thoughtfulness has gone into creating this special place for expectant mamas, as well as brand new mothers and their children.
Not only did I get a tour (and of course I took the opportunity to get some lovely photos!), but I also met one of the mamas who is currently living at Journey Home. I was delighted and honored to spend time with a sweet mama, her five-year-old daughter and one-month-old son.
All of the interior walls are painted a soft gray, and the rooms are decorated in soft neutrals with occasional pops of color. The home features a lovely living room and a few smaller, intimate spaces perfect for reading, nursing or relaxing. All of the bedrooms are spacious, complete with gorgeous furniture and incredibly generous closet space (as a mama, I know how important storage space is, especially when it comes to all the things babies need!)
There’s a beautiful little reading/play area upstairs, complete with a comfy chair and rug, plenty of books and a few sweet stuffed animals. It’s exactly the kind of place any mama would want to snuggle with her baby, or watch her toddler play.
Journey Home’s spacious kitchen is fully stocked with every appliance imaginable, along with a beautiful dark wood farmhouse table where family style meals are served. In fact, while I was there, the house parent was fixing scrambled eggs and bacon for the family upstairs. I immediately felt at home – and I know that’s exactly how the residents will feel as well.
One room in particular of Journey Home was tailor-made for a stunning newborn session. If you’ve spent any time at all on my blog, you know I am a huge fan of neutrals – both for clothing and home decor! Soft earth tones allow families to take the spotlight, and that’s exactly how this little newborn mini session was.
The white curtains and matching comforter set the tone for a lovely session starring mama and her babies. We also used the white rocking chair in the corner for a few tender shots of mama and newborn.
I’m so excited about this new partnership with the amazing people who run Journey Home, and the mothers who will call it their home. There’s nothing more awesome than seeing people loving and supporting a mama and her baby when she needs it most.
