A tender newborn session in The Woodlands, Texas celebrates Jason Ray
This adorable in-home newborn session in The Woodlands, Texas, was the sweetest way to welcome baby Jason!
I met parents Cathy and Steven for their maternity photography session at the end of May. She wore a stunning ivory lace gown during her maternity session; then she chose my angelic ivory wrap for her son to wear during his newborn portraits! I loved how ivory was a dominant color for both sessions.
Bright-eyed newborn baby boy!
Jason didn’t want to miss a minute of the action during his newborn photography session, which means so many sweet images with his eyes wide open! Like most babies, he was curious about each click of my shutter, which means he stared up at the camera when I was close enough for him to really see me.
The flow of Jason’s newborn portrait session was a little different for me; normally I begin with photos of mom, dad and baby all together. Steven was still getting ready and mama had just fed baby, so we got started with solo baby shots while Jason was happy and full. Cathy’s gorgeous off-white soft comforter was the ideal backdrop for photos of him wrapped in ivory.
Of course all of his dark newborn hair stole the show – it’s been a while since I’ve seen a baby with so much hair! We also got a few priceless shots of Jason’s tiny feet and hands, and then we moved into cuddle time with baby and Steven.
Just the boys
Steven actually picked out his son’s name years ago, and even told his family members it was off-limits for them to use before he was married to Cathy! He and his son share the same middle name, Ray, which is such a sweet way for Jason to honor his dad.
I photographed Steven holding his son on the couch in the living room. I also had him stand next to the wall of windows because the light was just perfect for some father-son portraits.
A brand new family of three
Cathy and Steven opted for a casual at-home newborn session with each of them in jeans and black shirts. Their family portraits in the living room were tender and sweet, with lots of smiles for their son. We swaddled in him a simple white blanket for this portion of the session, a good contrast to the black of mom and dad’s shirts.
Snuggles for Cathy
It was finally time for mama to cuddle with her baby boy, and this series of photos was my favorite of the entire day. Cathy and baby laid down together on her off-white comforter while Jason slept peacefully. The bedroom windows added in the perfect amount of light for these newborn portraits. You can see how crazy Cathy is about her little guy – her soft smile is so beautiful!
I also sneaked in a few portraits of mom and baby in front of the windows in the living room – the light here was so lovely.
What a treat to meet Jason and spend a few hours with this sweet family! Check out Cathy’s session sneak peek and photos from this at-home newborn photography session in The Woodlands, Texas.
