Photo session FAQs
Curious about maternity, newborn or motherhood photography sessions? Common questions are answered below, but you can always reach out to me if you need more information!
When is the best time to schedule a maternity session?
Maternity photos look best when taken around 28-35 weeks pregnant if you’re carrying one baby. For women expecting multiples, have your maternity photos taken by about 30 weeks pregnant.
These scheduling guidelines aren’t absolute – I’ve photographed pregnant mamas much earlier than 28 weeks and also worked with mamas-to-be right up until their due dates! Booking within this date range means that (hopefully!) you won’t have baby before your maternity session; you’ll also probably be a little more comfortable on your feet during your session if we schedule your session around these times. If you’re outside this range, email me and we’ll discuss your situation.
What should I wear for maternity photos?
While this will always come down to personal preference, I encourage you to consider dresses or gowns in earth tones, especially ivory, or soft pastels. These colors are flattering to most everyone and photograph beautifully in a variety of locations.

What is a Fresh 48 photo session?
Fresh 48 photography sessions are held within the first two days (or 48 hours) after your baby is born. These intimate, lovely sessions can be held in your hospital room, at your birth center or even in your home.
Should I schedule a Fresh 48 and an at-home newborn session?
Lots of parents-to-be think that all newborn photography sessions are the same – and this couldn’t be further from the truth! Fresh 48 sessions capture the raw beauty of new parenthood, within a day or so after you meet your newborn. Moms and dads are often tired, but overjoyed, to finally be snuggling with baby. These sessions are typically less formal in terms of wardrobe than an in-home newborn session.
At-home newborn photo sessions are very relaxed; we move at baby’s pace and soothe or nurse as needed. I usually photograph family sessions with a newborn at home in the master bedroom, the living room and baby’s nursery, along with any other special places.
My house isn’t immaculate or professionally decorated. Will an in-home session still be ok?
If you have windows, we have tons of options for amazing photos in your home! The most important aspect of your in-home newborn photography session is access to natural light, because that’s how we’ll get the photos you’ll love. I send all clients a simple checklist to help them prep their homes before a session; we can always move distractions out of sight if needed. Bottom line, don’t hesitate to schedule an at-home newborn session because you think your home isn’t perfect!
