Everly and fur sister Evie steal the show in this precious at-home newborn photo session!
If there’s one thing I’ve LOVED about at-home newborn sessions in 2020, it’s been how virtually every family has had their dogs participate in the sessions!
We are absolutely a dog-friendly family and it’s always such a joy to help my clients incorporate their fur babies into photos with their newborns. It’s given me a chance to be extra creative capturing the special bond between babies and pets!
Welcoming Everly
Super proud parents Nicole and Andy were absolutely overjoyed to introduce their beautiful baby girl, Everly. She’s a precious, tiny little bundle with beautiful dark hair and bright blue eyes. Nicole was snuggled with Everly when I arrived at their home in The Woodlands, smiling down at her daughter as Everly nursed away.
It was such a relaxed, easy-going morning as we celebrated precious Everly. Her mama picked out the sweetest little romper for Everly to wear for her first-ever photo session!
A gray and white nursery for a sweet baby girl!
We captured most of these unforgettable moments in Everly’s nursery. The soft gray walls made her room feel so cozy! This is definitely a very popular choice of paint color for nurseries, because it’s so neutral and works amazingly well with tons of accent colors. The white crib and furniture contrast beautifully against the walls.
I know that most parents don’t consider how a nursery will photograph when they’re deciding what color to paint the walls. That’s something only photographers plan for! I just love the simplicity of gray walls and white furniture, shutters and flowy curtains in Everly’s room. She has a large window along one wall of her room, and we opened up the shutters to let in lots of bright sunlight.

Chocolate lab Evie joins in the celebration
Everly’s dad, Andy, was thrilled to show how well-trained their chocolate lab, Evie, is. Any time we wanted to include Evie in the session, all Andy had to do was give her a command to sit, and she was all too happy to comply! When I wanted her to look at the camera, Andy held her tennis ball right above my head – and she didn’t move a muscle while she focused intently on her ball! I also held it while snapping away a few images of the whole family, which created some beautiful moments of everyone – Evie included! – looking at the camera.
Obviously Andy and Nicole trusted Evie near their baby girl, and I count on parents to be nearby any time I’m working with a newborn and a baby. Safety is so much more important than cute photos!
Savoring these special memories
After I delivered Nicole’s photo gallery a few days after her session, her mother requested a Grandparent Album to celebrate these beautiful photos! I got to work on a lovely photo album so that Everly’s grandma could share in the joy of her birth.
Most families that I photograph order a photo album after their photo sessions as a way to show off their photos. It’s definitely my favorite way to showcase memories from a session.
A Grandparent Album is an 8×8 softcover book that includes 30 pages (and more can be added if you wish). All Nicole’s mother had to do was tell me what photos she wanted to include, and I designed the album for her. She reviewed it by flipping through a digital version on her computer, when she was welcome to request any changes to the photos included, the order of the images, and more.
Other families choose a classic layflat album, complete with an elegant linen cover and photo featured on the cover. Layflat albums are my signature Keepsake, and I absolutely adore how well they hold up over time, and how beautifully they showcase memories from maternity and newborn sessions.
Up next: Everly goes to Canada!
Although she’s Texan by birth, sweet Everly and her family will call Canada home beginning November 2020! Her parents are originally from there, and they’re excited to introduce their daughter to snow, mountains and much colder weather than we’re used to here in Houston! I’m sure this precious family of three will make lots of happy, snow-filled memories with Everly and fur sister Evie!
