Meet Emmanuella, the star of this lovely in-home newborn session in The Woodlands
Everyone knows that newborns are super adorable – but imagine the cuteness overload when you add a flower crown!
That’s exactly what we did for a portion of Emmanuella’s in-home newborn photo session! Her mama, Yewande, wore a flower crown during part of her maternity session back in June, so I knew a tiny one for her daughter would be a big hit.
Mama in ivory lace, in love with her newborn daughter
Yewande sent me a message the week of her newborn session saying she had no idea what to wear for her photos. She was completely wrapped up in snuggling with her brand new daughter, and wardrobe hadn’t crossed her mind.
I pulled together six gowns from my client closet for Yewande to choose from for her in-home newborn session in The Woodlands. Of course my favorite ivory lace gown was there, in addition to five other lovely options guaranteed to make Yewande look and feel beautiful.
She selected the ivory lace gown first, which looks gorgeous on her! I’ve had so many mamas wear this gown for maternity and newborn sessions – it’s incredible how well it works for both sessions. The gown is flowy, romantic and so feminine. I love it so much that I also have it in a light pink, too!
A super proud new dad
Yewande finished getting ready while I began working with baby Ella and her very proud dad, Bode. He could barely take his eyes off his daughter, and who could blame him? She’s absolutely precious! His jeans and light blue shirt were the perfect blend of comfortable and casual for this mid-morning newborn session.
Yewande and Bode’s lovely home was a lovely backdrop for this peaceful session. We used their living room and master bedroom, both perfectly decorated with plenty of access to natural light.
A happy family of three
One aspect of in-home family newborn sessions I love is how it’s two hours of snuggle time for parents. While we worked in two different rooms, Yewande and Bode took turns holding precious Ella. I never had to tell them to smile – it was just an automatic response every time they looked at their sweet baby.
I was thrilled to see a full-length mirror in their master bedroom so we could capture some creative memories with both parents holding baby girl.
These reflection shots are always some of my favorites – I love how you can see so much detail and emotion by photographing a parent and the reflection as they cuddle a tiny newborn.
Sweet Ella barely made a peep till we were wrapping up her photo session, when her tiny tummy was empty! This gave me a chance to get a few images of mama nursing (but those are not included here to protect mama’s privacy). The bond between a nursing mama and her baby is so strong, and it’s a huge part of your relationship with a newborn. When parents are comfortable with nursing photos, I’m always happy to help them capture these moments.
Don’t miss the sneak peek video from Ella’s newborn photo session!
Up next: a family mini photo session when Emmanuella is one!
I know that Bode and Yewande can’t even imagine their tiny baby crawling, walking or feeding herself – but the next time I see her, she’ll likely be doing all of those things! Their package includes a family mini around baby’s first birthday, which is a great way to wrap up this super special first year of Ella’s life.
Right now caring for a baby is brand new for Yewande and Bode. She and I talked about the many new challenges you encounter in the weeks after birth; so many of those things come as a complete surprise to new parents. Adjusting to getting only a few hours of sleep is quite a challenge; learning to breastfeed is a process that takes time; soothing a crying newborn baby isn’t always easy.
No matter what, even the hard moments are worth it when you look at your baby’s sweet face! I can’t wait to hear about all the big and little moments of Ella’s first year next time I see this sweet family!
