Just look at this beautiful family! Preston and Mary have three adorable girls – Malia, Laila and Khila – and one precious little boy, Preston Jr. This sweet session was extra special because I met Preston and Mary last year, when she was pregnant with Preston Jr. We celebrated that sweet little guy before he was born with a couples maternity session in September of 2016. Last weekend, I finally met all of their babies! It’s hard to believe that little Preston Jr is almost one – it seems like Mary’s maternity session was just yesterday.
There were a million things to love about photographing this family – the girls are just delightful and Preston Jr. is such a handsome little man. Mary coordinated outfits for their photo session perfectly. I love how the colors that she and Preston are wearing compliment the kids’ outfits. The twins, Malia and Laila, are seven years old and just bursting with sweetness. Khila was my little shadow during the session when she wasn’t in photos, asking questions about my camera. I had to squeeze in a few moments and cuddle with Preston Jr before our session started. His smile melted my heart, and as a mama with three girls, it’s always a special treat for me to photograph little boys.
I met up with the Burton family on a cool afternoon in October at a park in The Woodlands. I love to pick a couple different backgrounds for photos; this way, Mary will (hopefully!) have images she can hang all over her home. We started out with family shots on a bridge, followed by a few more in the grass next to a pond. While I had the family seated in the grass, Mary shared with each of the girls why she is proud of them. These intimate family moments show real connection, and it allows me to document each of them in a comfortable, natural way.
About halfway into our session, we gave the kiddos a break from photos and I asked Mary and Preston to sneak off to different bridge just down the path from us. I love to capture a few moments of mom and dad being a couple – and you can just see how much these two love each other. When Preston leaned in for a quick kiss, Khila cracked me up when she told me that mom and dad kiss all the time at home! (Good for you, Mary and Preston!)
We wrapped up the family photos with my favorite image, in front of a huge tree with fall-colored leaves. I love the genuine smiles from everyone – what a picture-perfect family. Mary and Preston have so much to be thankful for with their four gorgeous children!
A fall photo session isn’t complete without having fun with just the kids, and it’s perfect weather for playing in the leaves. The girls were thrilled to burn off some energy, throwing leaves and jumping around in the grass next to the pond. Games like this are so perfect for getting real smiles from kiddos of any age, and these are the kinds of photos moms treasure forever. Mary’s daughters are a few years older than my own, and watching her girls play with each other and get along so well warmed my heart. I can’t wait till my own little munchkins are all big enough to play in the leaves. After catching some awesome moments with the girls, I pulled Mary and Preston Jr off to the side so she could have a few moments with her baby boy.
Preston and Mary, your family is just beautiful!
