This romantic maternity session in The Woodlands, Texas celebrates Cathy & Steven before their son arrives
{Maternity photography in The Woodlands, Tx} I met Cathy and Steven on a warm, humid Saturday evening for a beautiful outdoor maternity photography session just outside The Woodlands, Texas. Jason will be the first baby for this sweet couple, and they can hardly wait to meet him!
It’s that time of year when so many special photo-worthy events are going on – and that was so obvious the evening of this sweet maternity session! I lost count of how many prom groups, high school graduates, brides, quinceañeras and other maternity sessions we saw while shooting Cathy’s maternity photos. In fact, I arrived about 45 minutes before the start of the session and managed to snag the last parking spot in the overflow parking lot! Fortunately many people were starting to leave as we kicked off this lovely maternity photography session.
A beautiful ivory lace gown
Cathy looked stunning in a gorgeous ivory lace gown that perfectly highlighted her baby bump. She added in a white floral crown and beautiful makeup for such a romantic, timeless look. I suggested this lace gown because, as a maternity photographer, it’s one of my favorites of all time. It’s so flattering and you can easily dress it up, or go for a more casual look depending on our location and mama’s preference. The length also means you have some wiggle room with shoes – heels if you’re still comfortable in them, or cute flats!
Steven complemented his lovely wife in jeans and blue shirt, which worked really well for this romantic couples session. His most important job of the evening was to help make Cathy feel absolutely gorgeous and show off her beautiful smile, and I was so thankful for his help!
After years as a maternity photographer, I always advise mamas and their husbands to consider neutral, earth-toned solid colors for maternity sessions. Earth tones are flattering to every skin tone and solid colors keep photos from looking too busy, which can happen with too many prints or patterns. Neutral colors also help avoid color cast, which is when bright colors reflect from your partner’s clothing onto your outfit or body. Ensuring all of the little details come together well guarantees beautiful photos you’ll love!
Little romantic moments
My favorite thing about couples maternity sessions is creating romantic moments for mamas-to-be and their spouses. It makes for really beautiful photos full of genuine connection. I love to showcase the romance between a couple as they wait to meet their baby; these will be sweet memories Cathy and Steven can look back on as Jason grows. Someday he’ll enjoy taking a peek at what life was like for his parents just before he was born.
When I deliver a gallery, I include two albums: one of all the photos and one of my favorite images. The album with my most-loved images includes a handful of the sweetest, most beautiful moments from the session.
It was so difficult to narrow my favorites down after Cathy’s maternity photo session in The Woodlands! I adore the photos of just her leaning against the white column – she has the most beautiful, soft smile in this series of photos. I also included a few photos of Cathy and Steven walking down a path because they have such genuine, happy smiles!
In about eight weeks, Cathy and Steven will meet Jason and begin the amazingly joyful journey of parenthood. I’m so excited to photograph these memories for them and their little guy later this summer!
