A few of my favorite places where my work was featured this year!
What a year 2019 has been!
I’ve photographed so many beautiful mamas and adorable babies, along with their families, in the past 12 months. One thing a lot of people don’t realize is how much happens behind the scenes in a photography business. It’s a little more than taking photos of sweet families and delivering amazing galleries!
My favorite part is submitting photos to magazines and blogs to get my beautiful clients published! Before I had kids, I worked in public relations, where I specialized in working with media. That’s where I learned the ropes of pitching story and photo ideas to magazines and bloggers. I never dreamed I’d be pitching my own work one day!
My work has popped up in quite a few places over the last 12 months, an accomplishment I’m pretty proud of! I’m sharing just a handful of awesome publications where you can find photos of the lovely mamas, babies and families I’ve photographed this year.
The Motherhood Society
I kicked off 2019 with a huge honor – an invitation to join The Motherhood Society! It’s an elite group of professionals that work exclusively in maternity, newborn and motherhood photography. There are only three Motherhood Society photographers in Texas, and we were hand-picked by the TMS staff for our high-quality work, dedication to our clients and top notch service.
As a perk of membership, TMS publishes our most recent work in their Bumps & Babies blog, where many of my clients were featured this year. Take a peek at Amanda and her sweet family below!
Photography Concentrate
Here’s something you may not know: I have taught photography classes to students all over the world! Webinars make it simple to teach a lot of people cool things from anywhere, and that’s exactly what Photography Concentrate does! Although I’m not with them anymore, this crew of incredibly talented photographers produce amazing work and excellent courses for people who are new to photography.
My own classes included how to photograph families, Fresh 48 and in-home newborn sessions, marketing tips and more. I also helped create a helpful PDF on working with natural light, wrote blog posts and dozens of emails that went out to worldwide Photography Concentrate members.
It was quite an adventure teaching webinars and helping new photographers achieve their photo biz dreams. I’d love to get back into teaching someday, perhaps when my kids are a little older.
Basic Invite
My partnership with Basic Invite is a match made in Heaven! They contacted me this year to see if I’d be interested in a feature on their blog about my business and I was thrilled to accept.
The post details my journey as a maternity, newborn and motherhood photographer. It includes several of my favorite photos from beautiful maternity and newborn client sessions.
After Basic Invite featured my blog post, they invited me to extend a special discount on their products to clients after a session! If you’re not familiar with them, Basic Invite specializes in gorgeous cards and invitations for all kinds of occasions – like announcing the birth of a pregnancy or baby!
I love offering this special discount to my clients so they can share special moments with loved ones – and save money, too!
Parabo Press
In the fall of 2019, I discovered Parabo Press, a sweet little shop that offers all kinds of creative photo gifts. I’m always looking for new places for gifts for family and clients, and Parabo Press was a perfect fit with my style and budget.
I pitched them a series of two blog posts about the most frequently asked questions for maternity and newborn photography sessions. Luckily, their marketing director was interested and I was able to meet her tight deadline for both blog posts!
After photographing so many mamas and babies over the years, I really love giving advice about how to plan the most gorgeous, unforgettable maternity and newborn sessions. For most families, these sessions are a big investment of time and money; I want my clients to love their photos for a lifetime. It’s simple for me and a mama-to-be to design a session that brings life to her vision of a perfect session.
In-home newborn sessions are a such a lovely celebration of new life. Two questions I get from almost every client before a newborn photography session include what to wear help for the entire family and how to display photos afterward. I discuss both of these questions in the Parabo Press guest feature, in addition to three other FAQs.
What’s ahead for 2020!
I have a couple features in the works from incredibly popular blogs including ShootProof and Something Turquoise that will be published in 2020! I’ve also got my fingers crossed for a print magazine feature in a gorgeous publication that caters to women who are getting married, having babies and raising big kids.
I so appreciate the clients who have trusted me with their priceless memories. Photography brings me such joy that it hardly feels like work, even when it comes to submitting work to be published.
Are you dreaming of your own stunning maternity and newborn sessions? Let me know when you’re due and we’ll plan your dream sessions!
