A fall-themed newborn session in The Woodlands, TX for a sweet little pumpkin!
Welcome little guy!
The timing worked out just perfectly for this sweet couple to celebrate their little man’s arrival with a beautiful fall-themed newborn session! Lisa and Ross were overjoyed to spend a few hours snuggling with their son on a sunny morning as we captured priceless memories of parenthood.
I met Ross and Lisa for their maternity session over the summer when I photographed them at Mercer Arboretum. They were so looking forward to meeting their baby boy! He made his grand entrance into the world on September 28, warmly welcomed by his parents and fur sister Sophie the poodle. Lisa and Ross wanted a little extra time to recover from the newborn fog, so we scheduled this sweet session when baby was just shy of two months old!
Although I typically photograph newborns anywhere from one – three weeks after birth, sessions with a slightly older baby are no less magical. By this point, having a newborn usually doesn’t feel quite so overwhelming and exhausting. As a bonus, babies can maintain amazing eye contact with parents and the camera, which creates unforgettable precious moments!
A radiant first-time mama in white
My most favorite outfit choice for new mamas is always a long dress or a skirt. These are such special memories that you’re definitely going to look back on many times over the years. You want to take extra special care with wardrobe for yourself and your husband to ensure you’ll love your photos forever!
Lisa opted for a floor-length white dress with gorgeous lace detailing; she looks absolutely stunning just weeks after having her son! She also had hair and makeup done by my favorite team of ladies. They always make mamas look and feel incredible!
I was so thankful for the breezy white curtains in Lisa and Ross’s bedroom! They were the perfect backdrop for this series of images where Lisa’s new mama glow literally shines in every single image.
White is such a wonderful choice for newborn sessions because delicate newborn skin looks so dreamy next to it. Neutral-colored sessions like this one are absolute perfection!
Daddy’s little man
Ross was bursting with pride over his baby boy! His light blue button down shirt and jeans went along with Lisa’s white dress and also looked great while snuggling with baby.
I focused on the daddy-son bond as soon as we moved into baby’s beautiful blue nursery. There are adorable little animal accents on the walls, along with a lovely white crib and neutral gray chair perfectly suited for cuddles. No doubt the way his room looks will change so much over the years; I took a few moments at the start of the session to capture the nursery so that Lisa will never forget how her baby’s special room looked when he came home.
Lisa requested lots of photos of she and her husband reading to baby while we were in the nursery; she selected a couple of special books for this series of images. I love when parents interact with baby in a natural, easy way like this during a session; it creates special memories that they’ll always treasure!
Sophie the poodle loves her tiny human!
Lisa shared with me before her maternity session that her first baby is actually a black poodle named Sophie; she’s definitely living a charmed life with Ross and Lisa! Fortunately Sophie has excellent doggie manners and sat for many photos with her tiny human. I’ve incorporated dogs into most of my newborn sessions this year, and dog people are absolutely my favorite clients! I always make time for at least one or two doggy-only portraits because fur babies are loved almost as much as newborns in most families!
Sophie participated in the session in several ways, from being held by Ross or Lisa, to sitting with her humans while they held baby, to peeking inside the crib to check on her new baby! When Lisa told me that Sophie loves to pose for the camera, she couldn’t have been more right.
Up next: baby turns one in 2021!
The next time I see this sweet family, baby boy will be one year old! It’s hard to believe how much will change for Ross, Lisa, Sophie and baby over the next 10 months. One thing is for sure – this is one very loved little man! I can’t wait to see how he’s changed when I see them again in 2021.
