Lovely mama Alexis celebrates her baby girl on the way in The Woodlands!
Winter maternity sessions in The Woodlands, Tx are my favorite. It’s the most gorgeous time of year to celebrate a baby bump! The cooler weather also makes maternity sessions a little more comfy for mamas-to-be like Alexis.
This mini maternity session was the perfect opportunity for Alexis to savor the last weeks of pregnancy. Her sweet daughter will make her big debut in January and her mama can’t wait!
A soft pink floral dress for Alexis
There are two kinds of dresses I adore for maternity photography sessions: neutral earth tones and delicate, feminine florals. Both of these options tend to photograph well no matter what. Maxi dresses like the one Alexis wore from PinkBlush are so flattering to pregnancy curves. The pastel pink was perfect for a mama expecting a baby girl; this dress would work equally well if you’re waiting on a son with its bright blue flowers.
I love long gowns because they elongate your body and flow over a baby bump while highlighting beautiful pregnancy curves. We happened to catch the rare Houston breeze during Alexis’ mini maternity session, giving her that gorgeous windswept look with her dress gently blowing around her.
Her neutral boots complimented the look, and we varied her gallery with barefoot shots as well. The cross top will allow for easy nursing after Alexis has her daughter, meaning this dress can take her from pregnancy to new motherhood!
A sunny afternoon to celebrate
Alexis requested a romantic location with flowers, tall trees and some kind of water feature. There are lots of places around Houston that fit the bill, but I knew she’d love this secret little spot in The Woodlands. The tall columns, stately white building and carefully manicured outdoor area gave us plenty of options for gorgeous backdrops. There’s a small pond not far away and it adds a peaceful element to Alexis’ photo gallery.
Don’t miss this incredible sneak peek video of Alexis’ maternity session!
I really can’t say enough about all of the backdrop options here. Lots of trees are still full and green, but there are also several who have lost leaves and bare branches are stunning behind Alexis. I was happy to find a huge bush full of big, bright pink knockout roses, perfectly appropriate for a maternity session celebrating a little girl!
First grandbaby for grandma-to-be!
Alexis invited her mom and sister to join her. They did a fabulous job getting natural, joyful smiles from Alexis! In so many of her photos, there is a look of genuine happiness on her face – you can tell she’s watching someone she knows very well and loves deeply. It adds something special to photo sessions when clients invite loved ones along who can always make them smile.
In fact, we wrapped up this session with two of my favorite photos to date; in one, you’ll see Alexis’ mother holding onto her daughter’s hands on top of the baby bump. In the second image, Alexis, her mother and sister all have their hands laying on her baby bump. These precious, touching moments capture just a glimpse of how loved this baby is!
Maternity sessions are about more than pretty photos – it’s also about the experience, too. I truly loved spending the afternoon with Alexis and her family, knowing her mom and sister weren’t afraid to be totally goofy to elicit genuine smiles. When Alexis looks back on these photos with her daughter, she’ll remember the hilarious little moments with her mother and sister. Those memories are the difference between just another photo session and an afternoon this family will treasure for decades.
Kicking off 2020 with a baby girl
A sweet baby girl will be snuggled in Alexis’ arms very soon! While she has a middle name picked out, Alexis isn’t sure about the first name yet. Sometimes it helps to meet your little one before making such a big decision! Her in-home newborn session will be featured here in January, complete with gorgeous photos of mama, dad and baby girl!
